'The school is a caring community, based on Christian values, where the needs of the pupils are at the heart of everything the school does.' OFSTED 2017.
As a school community we have developed our own core values, behaviours for learning and positive learning system using the principles of restorative practice. The aim of the system is to ensure that pupils are taking responsibility for their own behaviour and learning as well as developing skills to thrive in society.
Along with the 'British Values' (see the link at the bottom of the page) they combine to underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.
St Michael & All Angels six core values have been adopted which are:
Respect
Responsibility
Resilience
Cooperation
Confidence
Compassion
All children throughout the school are becoming familiar with these values and how they are out into practice as learning behaviours. They are developing a growing understanding of how they can demonstrate these values in school and as members of society.
Each classroom has a values display where children who are showing particular values will be recognised by adding their initial on to the relevant board. These values have learning behaviour profiles which are used to record how pupils are developing in each area. Children discuss how they are upholding the values with their peers, class teacher as well as in Worship. They also reflect on how they can improve or try to do more of the following week.
As part of our mission to promote positive well-being in school and intertwined with our school values, at St Michael's we have been embracing the 'Growth Mindset' approach to learning. Incorporating our school values children learn how our brains work and how new connections are formed when they try new things.
