As a church school we are linked with St Michael's Church, Shelf. Our latest SIAMS Inspection (2016) stated, 'the school and church have a mutually beneficial partnership which makes an important contribution to the Christian ethos of the school.'
Andy Greiff is Team Vicar of Shelf with Buttershaw, he joined the parish in 2012. He leads worship in school every other Monday as well as Whole School Eucharist each term. Andy also comes in to school as part of our RE topics and classes also visit church. We also welcome other leaders from other Christian denominations and faiths to lead our daily Whole School Worship.
We have a carefully planned curriculum that follows Understanding Christianity and Believing and Belonging (the agreed syllabus for Religious Education in Calderdale, Kirklees and Leeds) enriching and enlivening the curriculum by providing our pupils with varied opportunities to learn in a variety of stimulating ways.
As a church school Christianity forms at least 60% of our teaching. However, it is vital to us that all our pupils know and understand about all faiths, races and cultures with respect so they are able to express ideas and insights. Therefore the teaching of other faiths is imperative to contribute to the development of their own spiritual/philosophical convictions, exploring and enriching their own beliefs and values.
