Food and snacks in school

Nut Free School!

Please do not send any nut products into school as we have children with severe nut allergies.

There are also other allergies across school and classes will be made aware if needed.

Our School Meals

Mrs Fiona Averill, our school cook and her team make all our meals on site.  Our kitchen has a five star food hygiene rating.

School meals are pre-ordered termly and you can see the current menu at the bottom of this page.

There may be seasonal amendments or minor alterations to menus.

The current cost of school meals is £2.20 per day, however this will increase to £2.30 per day from September 2024.

Packed Lunches

You can choose for your child to bring a packed lunch from home.  Children will be asked to take all of their packed lunch left-overs home with them so that parents can monitor their eating habits.  This allows parents to see exactly what has been eaten and to discuss their child's choices with them.  Children are allowed to have their own juice at lunch time.

Children who bring a packed lunch to school should ideally have one which provides them with a balanced diet and supports the habit of eating healthily.

NHS advise says that, a balanced packed lunch should contain:

  • Starchy foods, such as bread, rice, potatoes, pasta etc.
  • Protein foods, such as meat, fish, eggs, beans etc
  • A dairy item, such as cheese or yoghurt
  • Vegetables or salad, and a portion of fruit.

Snacks

The only foods that are permissible for school snack are either fresh fruit or vegetables or dried fruits without a coating.

Toast Tuck

Toast is served each Tuesday and Friday at morning break times.  As we are now cashless, if you would like your child to have this optional extra (at a cost of 20p per serving) you can buy this item for the whole of the term by making a purchase in the shop section of SchoolMoney.  Pre-School do not have this extra service as they already have mid-morning snack every day.

Infant Free School Meals

Drinks

As a school we encourage our children to drink a range of healthy drinks throughout the school day e.g. water and milk. Children are encouraged to drink water, which is available throughout the school day. To support this, all children must bring a water bottle to school. These bottles may only contain plain water and may be refilled at the water coolers when needed.

We also provide a milk scheme that is available to all of our pupils. Each pupil that registers with Cool Milk will receive a carton of fresh, chilled, semi-skimmed milk everyday in school. School milk is free for all under-fives and is subsidised for pupils aged five or older at a cost of 27p per 189ml portion. If your child is entitled to Pupil Premium funding then they can also have milk for free.  Please ask at the office for further details of the milk scheme.
