Sports Premium
🏆 Primary PE & Sport Premium Funding 2025-2026
At St Michael & All Angels CE Primary School, we are committed to ensuring every child develops the confidence, skills and enthusiasm to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.
The Primary PE and Sport Premium is government funding provided to primary schools to improve the quality of physical education, physical activity and sport. The funding is designed to create sustainable improvements that benefit all pupils, increasing participation, raising attainment in PE and encouraging lifelong enjoyment of sport and physical activity.
We use our Sport Premium funding to enhance the quality of PE teaching, provide specialist coaching, increase opportunities for competitive sport, develop staff confidence and expertise, and ensure that all children can access a broad range of physical activities both within and beyond the curriculum.
🌟 Impact of Our Sports Premium Funding
Our Sports Premium funding has enabled us to provide a diverse and engaging programme of physical activity, sport and enrichment opportunities, helping children to develop physically, socially and emotionally.
⚽ A Wider Range of Sporting Opportunities
Throughout the year, pupils have benefited from a variety of after-school clubs and enrichment opportunities. Attendance at clubs has been strong, with positive feedback received from both pupils and parents. Families particularly welcomed the breadth of activities on offer and the clear communication regarding provision.
As part of our ongoing commitment to listening to our school community, parents have requested additional opportunities for Reception-aged children and the introduction of a film-production club, which we will explore as part of future provision.
🏅 Inspiring Whole-School Participation
Our annual Sports Day continues to be a highlight of the school calendar, bringing together pupils, families and staff in a celebration of teamwork, perseverance and sporting achievement. The event was exceptionally well attended by parents and carers and was shared widely across our school community through newsletters and celebrations.
🚴 Developing Lifelong Skills and Confidence
Sport Premium funding has supported a range of programmes designed to develop confidence, physical literacy and important life skills:
✅ 24 Reception children successfully participated in and completed the Balance Bikes programme, developing their balance, coordination and confidence before moving on to pedal bikes.
✅ 69% of Year 5 pupils achieved Bikeability Level 1 and 2 accreditation, helping children develop safe cycling skills and confidence when cycling independently.
🏊 Supporting Success in Swimming
Swimming remains an important part of our PE curriculum, helping children develop water confidence, safety awareness and essential life skills.
Our swimming outcomes (2025-2026) demonstrate strong achievement across several year groups:
🏊 88% of Year 5 pupils met the national curriculum swimming standard
🏊 79% of Year 6 pupils met the national curriculum swimming standard
🏊 62% of Year 4 pupils met the national curriculum swimming standard
To ensure all pupils can achieve success, 10 Year 4 pupils will return for additional swimming lessons in September 2026 through targeted top-up funding, providing further opportunities to reach the expected standard.
👩🏫 Investing in High-Quality PE Teaching
As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, a thorough review of PE provision was undertaken. Feedback highlighted areas where staff confidence and pupil engagement could be strengthened within the existing Real PE programme.
In response, school leaders reviewed alternative approaches and made the decision to transition towards EdStart PE. To support this development, a specialist sports coach delivered and modelled a six-week programme in Year 6. Lessons were observed by staff to inform future curriculum development, support professional development and ensure progression is built effectively across the school.
This investment will help ensure that all pupils experience high-quality, engaging and progressive PE lessons whilst enhancing teacher confidence and subject expertise.
💚 Looking Ahead
Our vision is for every child to develop a lifelong love of physical activity, sport and healthy living. Through careful use of Sport Premium funding, we continue to create opportunities for children to be active, challenged and successful, whilst developing the resilience, teamwork and confidence that will support them both in school and beyond.
"Be Strong and Courageous" (Joshua 1:9) underpins our approach to sport and physical activity, encouraging every child to try new experiences, challenge themselves and celebrate their achievements. 🏆💚
